Lead time is not a single number a supplier quotes. It is the sum of four blocks: material, tooling, production and booking. Cutting any one of them moves the date, and the largest block is usually not the one buyers expect.
| Stage | What it depends on | How to shorten it |
|---|---|---|
| Material | Extrusion and sheet availability, alloy and grade | Confirm grade at enquiry, not at order |
| Tooling | New dies, jigs or fixtures for a custom model | Reuse an existing frame size where possible |
| Production | Cutting, welding, surface treatment, assembly | Avoid peak season, approve the sample early |
| Booking | Vessel space from Shanghai or Ningbo | Book before the goods are packed, not after |
Repeat models skip most of the tooling block, which is why the second order is consistently faster than the first. New tooling is the part that deserves the most attention in your planning, because tooling changes ripple into the sample approval and then into production.
Most distributors do not fill a container with one rack model. A workable mixed load usually pairs a high volume item with slower movers so the container pays for itself. Three rules keep a mixed load simple to load and to clear.
Send the model list with quantities and we will return a loading plan showing how many cartons fit and where the space is left. That plan is worth requesting before you fix the order quantity, because a small change in the mix often frees enough room for an extra line.
Knock down packing is the single biggest lever on freight cost for racks. Assembled racks ship mostly air; a KD carton carries the same rack as a set of frames, shelves and a hardware bag. The saving is largest on tall models and on anything with a wide footprint. The trade off is assembly labour at the destination, so the right choice depends on your labour cost and on whether your customers expect to bolt racks together. We build both ways and quote both, so the comparison can be made on your numbers rather than on a rule of thumb. See our note on how OEM shipping cuts freight costs.
Writing these into the order confirmation removes the ambiguity that causes disputes. If a milestone slips, you know which block slipped and can reset the plan instead of renegotiating the whole schedule.
Standard practice on our export orders is a set of production photographs, a packing list by carton, and loading photographs of the container. Inspection against the approved sample can be added on request. Nothing leaves the warehouse until that documentation is issued, which is the point at which most buyers release the balance.
Yes. Mixed containers are normal for distribution programs. Send the list with quantities and we will return a loading plan and a freight comparison for assembled versus KD versions.
No. Trial orders and part loads ship as LCL, although the freight per unit is higher and the handling risk increases with more touch points. Many buyers start with LCL and move to FCL once the model proves itself.
Shanghai or Ningbo, both close to our Jiaxing plant. We quote FOB or CIF and confirm the vessel booking in writing once production is packed.
