Stocking Carts: OEM Knock-Down vs All-Welded

What a stocking cart does

A stocking cart, also called a stock cart or a service cart, carries restock loads from the back room to the shelf in grocery, warehouse and retail aisles. The frame, the shelves and the casters decide how much it carries and how it handles in a narrow aisle. The first choice is whether the cart arrives knock-down or fully welded.

Chrome knock-down stocking cart

A chrome knock-down cart ships flat and assembles on site with bolts or snap fittings. The bright chrome finish suits dry retail and front of house, and the flat pack saves freight on a large order. Assembly takes a few minutes per cart, which is fine when you buy in volume and build them as needed.

All welded stocking cart

An all welded cart leaves the factory as one rigid frame with no assembly. It takes more volume in the container, but it arrives ready to roll and it carries a heavier, steadier load because every joint is welded. For a busy aisle where the cart is loaded hard all day, the welded frame is the dependable choice.

Shelves: mesh or solid

Mesh shelves shed spills and weigh less, which suits produce and bottle runs. Solid shelves hold small parts and loose cartons without losing them through the gaps. Some carts offer a mesh or solid top, so you can match the top to the topmost load.

Casters and handling

  • Two braked swivel casters and two fixed for predictable steering.

  • Soft rubber for tiled sales floors, hard nylon for docks and cold stores.

  • A larger wheel, 125 mm or more, for thresholds, ramps and drains.

  • Confirm the cart clears the narrowest aisle at full load.

Where each cart earns its place

Grocery and retail restocking in dry aisles favours the knock-down chrome cart for value and volume. Warehouse and heavy daily runs favour the all welded cart for rigidity and load. Match the cart to the heaviest typical load, not the average, because the cart is tested on the busy day.
